Don Jones is a nationally experienced music director and pianist whose career bridges professional theatre, higher education, and nonprofit arts leadership. With more than 25 years in musical theatre, Don brings a deep commitment to artistic excellence, education, and access to AIMT’s mission and long-term vision.
Before relocating to Atlanta, Don spent over two decades in New York City, where his Broadway work included keyboards and/or rehearsal piano for Wicked, The Little Mermaid, Flower Drum Song, and Wonderland. Over the course of his career, he has music directed and performed in more than 120 productions, and was a longtime audition accompanist for both AEA and non-AEA performers, accompanying tens of thousands of auditions—an experience that uniquely shaped his understanding of actor training, preparation, and professional standards.
Don has collaborated closely with some of the most respected composers and performers in the industry, including being a requested pianist for the late Marvin Hamlisch, working with Stephen Schwartz, and accompanying artists such as Idina Menzel, Laura Osnes, Renée Fleming, and Karen Mason.
As an educator, Don is a passionate advocate for rigorous, thoughtful musical theatre training. He has taught masterclasses across the country, coached Broadway professionals, and believes deeply that storytelling is at the heart of all musical theatre work—requiring curiosity, discipline, empathy, and craft.
In Atlanta, Don is the Founder and Executive Director of The Studios Brookhaven, a multidisciplinary arts organization serving more than 500 students weekly, and the Founder of the Atlanta Institute for Musical Theatre (AIMT). He has also served as an adjunct faculty member at Brenau University, works closely with Oglethorpe University, and currently serves as Director of Music at Sandy Springs United Methodist Church.
Don’s work is guided by a belief that high-quality arts education should be both accessible and transformative—and that strong institutions are built by investing in artists, educators, and community for the long term.
